Team Ninja and PlatinumGames have announced a partnership for Ninja Gaiden 4, the first new entry in the series in over ten years.

This new entry in the series will introduce a new protagonist named Yakumo, and the game will take place a while after the events of Ninja Gaiden 3, with the return of ‘Dark Dragon’ plunging Tokyo into darkness, never-ending rain and turmoil. Ryu Hayabusa, the protagonist of the previous games, will return in Ninja Gaiden 4; however, you’ll be facing off against him, and his story is a mystery at this point — though he will also be a playable character in some regard.

In the first gameplay and discussion of the different types of enemies you’ll be facing in Ninja Gaiden 4, it looks like the game will mix up the type of combat elements PlatinumGames is known for, with fights taking on rooms full of enemies and then 1v1 battles that’ll test your skills, more in-line with the challenge felt in the original series of games. The game’s difficulty wasn’t discussed too much in the reveal this morning Developer_Director. However, it’ll be an important factor going forward, as it is well known that Ninja Gaiden 2 and its difficulty was, and has always been, the fan favourite.

Alongside the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4, Team Ninja also revealed Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, which has launched today.

Ninja Gaiden 4 launches Spring 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5. It’ll be available to play on day one on Game Pass.
