In a new feature video shared this morning, Nomada Studio explains the origins, influences, and artistry behind its upcoming game, Neva.
The team doesn’t shy away from mentioning that the game is influenced by Studio Ghibli, and in particular, Princess Mononoke. The art itself is done with blotches rather than hard lines, an imposed rule and challenge for Conrad Roset, Creative Director at Nomada Studio. And it’s this unique challenge and look that makes Neva stand out at a glance, even if you don’t know what’s making it different.
The team also discussed other inspirations in the video and challenges, including adding combat to the game—something their previous release didn’t have—while also wanting this game to look something like Gris yet different.
Check out the video below.
Neva will be released on October 15 and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
