“I’m something different”, states whoever is killing as Ghostface in the trailer for Scream VI. And it sure looks like they are, with the ability to kill in broad daylight in shops, on trains and wherever else. The New York setting of the new film may take away the claustrophobic nature of a slasher, but if the trailer is anything to go by, the latest entry in the franchise is going to be just as scary as ever.

Scream VI sees both Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) living in New York City with their surviving friends, Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding) and making some new ones, in David (Josh Segarra) and Gabe (Tony Revolori) when Ghostface decides to start killing again. Returning is also Gale Weather (Courtney Cox) and from Scream 4, Kirby (Hayden Panettiere), but this will be the first film in the franchise without either Dewey (David Arquette), who died in the previous film and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) herself, unfortunately, after negotiations fell through with the studio.

This new killer appears to have a shrine to either past killers in the Ghostface guise, or the Stab films, which you will see in the trailer below.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed Scream (2022), are returning to direct this film. Scream VI will release on March 10th, 2023.
