Owlcat Games and Another Angle Games have released a new story trailer for Shadow of the Road, offering a closer look at the alternate-history Japan setting.

Shadow of the Road is set in an alternate version of Japan’s 19th-century Bakumatsu period, where traditional samurai warfare coexists with advanced mechs used by the East Nippon Company. Kami and yōkai also exist within the world and have their own part to play in the wider conflict.

It looks like player choice is another major focus, with decisions affecting relationships, character paths and how the group develops over time.

Combat in the game is turn-based, with each party member bringing different abilities.

A demo for Shadow of the Road is available now on Steam if you’d like to check it out in more detail for yourself.

Shadow of the Road launches later in 2026 for PC, with a release date still to be announced.
