When Silent Hill: Ascension was revealed, it was the most complicated upcoming Silent Hill game to understand the GAME and how it will be played. Thanks to a new trailer and post from developer Genvid, we have a slightly better idea. One thing I do know for sure is that this game looks scary.
Silent Hill: Ascension follows multiple characters who are in different locations around the world. All share one thing: they are being tormented by Silent Hill monsters. Here’s the pitch from Genvid themselves, which is a hard thing to wrap your head around:
“In SILENT HILL: Ascension the actions of millions will determine the outcome. By the time the last scene streams, which characters have survived? Will those who are left be redeemed, damned, or suffer? Even the project’s creators do not know how SILENT HILL: Ascension will end. Instead, the character’s fates are in the audience’s hands.”
Check out the brand-new trailer below.
Chris Amaral, Art Director at Bad Robot Games, said the following about the games visuals:
“We’ve gone the extra mile to create a dreamlike world in SILENT HILL: Ascension with disturbing, hyper-detailed characters, other-worldly monsters, immersive atmospheres, and an overall audio and visual design that our team is very proud of. The detailed environments, the eerie ambiance, and the realistic characters and monsters should really enhance the horror experience, creating something that is pure SILENT HILL, while also feeling unique for the franchise.”
So how will we play this game/experience? How are we, as a community going to shape the story? I’m not sure. It sounds something like a Supermassive Game, but instead of making choices yourself, how each episode plays out will be a collective experience. I am intrigued and ready to learn more, as the trailer above looked excellent, and I’m always excited by new ideas and directions for long-running gaming franchises.
