Spiritfarer was announced during Xbox’s E3 2019 Conference with a fantastic trailer, but thanks to a PS Blog post from Nicolas Guérin, the creative lead at developer Thunder Lotus, we know more about the game.
The reveal trailer grabs you with its Studio Ghibli like art and detail and the games themes and the story sound like something the Japanese animation studio would play with as well.
In Spiritfarer you play Stella and, as seen in the trailer, will build a boat to explore the world while caring for and meeting spirits. You’ll have to farm, fish, cook and craft on your journey while spending time with the spirits.

“In the game, you’ll farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas. Daffodil the cat is Stella’s companion and will share your responsibilities in two-player cooperative play. You’ll spend quality, relaxing time with your spirit passengers, create lasting memories, and, ultimately, learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends.”
Spiritfarer is all about putting a positive spin of loss and its theme, which could be perceived dark, seem very hopeful.
