The DioField Chronicle was my personal pick of the announcements from yesterday’s State of Play, and hot off the heels of Triangle Strategy, Square Enix announced they are all in on SRPGs. However, The DioField Chronicles is going to feature real-time tactical battles. This does seem to be something quite different, as Real-Time Tactics is not the most storied of game genres.

Of course, this game has also been announced for every platform, including Nintendo Switch, following the State of Play. Other information out about this game is keen to call out the real-time tactics battles, as well as the realistic “diorama” style battle scenes, as well as how deep and strategic the battles will be, as you make use of the skills, classes and equipment to complete your mission.

The game’s website also gives up profiles on some of the characters we will meet in this RPG, who have some truly excellent names like “Andrias Rhondarson” and “Lorraine Luckshaw.”

The story details indicate to me that we will be following the journey of a Mercenary band, the Blue Foxes, that arise out of a war spanning many years. With the following tagline, it seems that we may get a fair bit of leeway with how we experience this story.

But when all is said and done, will the name “Blue Fox” come to be a byword for hope or darkest tragedy?

The team behind The DioField Chronicle also has some weight, with the team including the team includes Character Designer Taiki (Lord of Vermillion III, IV), Kamikokuryo Isamu (Final Fantasy XII, XIII), and Sound Composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell (Game of Thrones).
