A twenty-minute State of Play kicked off Thursday morning, focusing on games coming out of Japan, although there were a couple of diversions from that theme. Overall it was a decent showcase, but there are no big hitters in here if you’re looking for the next Final Fantasy or a Bloodborne remaster.
ExoPrimal

Things kicked off with Ivy the android informing us of a Dinosaur outbreak as hundreds of thousands of dinosaurs were dropping out of a black hole. Including a big old T-Rex, of course. This was the first trailer for ExoPrimal, a brand new IP from Capcom coming to PS5 and PS4 next year. No, it doesn’t look like it’s connected to Dino Crisis.
Ghostwire Tokyo

Ghostwire Tokyo was up next, which is fair considering the game is out on March 25th. It was probably the most action intense and scariest trailer the game has to date.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Talking about games coming out soon — a new demo for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be available today. The full game releases on March 18th for PS4 and PS5.
Forspoken

The recently delayed Forspoken received a brand new and action-packed trailer featuring dragons and all sorts of fantasy creatures. It’s the best the games ever looked. I look forward to all of this on October 11th, the new release date.
Gundam Evolution

Do you love Gundam? Then Gundam Evolution is going to be up your alley. It’s a 5v5 multiplayer game featuring three different modes and all the weapons and abilities Gundam’s are known for using.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection includes what looks like all of the past turtle’s beat-em-ups.
GigaBash

GigaBash is a Kaiju brawler. Smash, roar, it’s coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: All Star Battle R was revealed, and it features over 50 playable characters.
Trek To Yomi got a fantastic and violent trailer that set up the revenge story and aesthetically pleasing visuals. No exact release date, but it’s still coming this year.
Surprisingly Returnal showed up in this State of Play with the reveal of a campaign co-op mode coming to the game and a survival single-player tower climber. Update 3.0 “Ascension” will release on March 22nd.
Square Enix revealed The DioField Chronicle, a brand new IP, even if the game looks very similar to Triangle Strategy, which just released on the Nintendo Switch.
Valkyrie Elysium was also revealed from Square Enix with a 2022 release date. It’s the first console release of a Valkyrie game since the PS2 with Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.
I’m not sure if it’s worth getting hopefully over, but the show did end the event with a “we’ll see you soon with another State of Play.” And there are plenty of rumours floating around about the new PlayStation Plus service and other things to warrant hope we could get another State of Play relatively soon.
If you’d like to watch the State of Play in whole, the video is below. Let me know in the comments section what you liked the most from this recent showcase.
