Beloved Studio Ghibli classic Kiki’s Delivery Service is returning to cinemas across Australia and New Zealand this July, newly remastered in 4K.
Crunchyroll announced the news this morning, saying it will screen exclusively in IMAX for one week starting July 2, before expanding into traditional cinemas in 4K from July 9. With this re-release, the film will screen in IMAX for the first time across Australia and New Zealand, and will offer a way to appreciate the animated film’s hand-drawn work in greater detail
Screenings will be available in both Japanese with English subtitles and an English-dubbed version.
The film follows Kiki, a young witch who leaves home as part of a long-standing tradition to train and discover her place in the world. After arriving in a seaside town alongside her cat Jiji, Kiki starts a delivery service using her flying abilities.
The English dub features performances from Kirsten Dunst, Janeane Garofalo, Phil Hartman and Debbie Reynolds.
Tickets for the IMAX screenings are expected to go on sale soon. Would you be excited to watch Kiki’s Delivery Service in IMAX? Or in a cinema in general, if you weren’t alive when it was originally released, like me. Let me know in the comments section below.
