‘Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition’ Revives Co-Op GameCube Title
by Dylan Blight
The couch co-op Final Fantasy game for the GameCube, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, is coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
Originally released in 2004, Crystal Chronicles famously required a GameCube, link cables, and four GBAs to play as intended—a full co-op experience built around communication and teamwork. I never got to play it properly back then because I didn’t know enough people with the right setup.
It’s headed to both PS4 and Switch. While Switch lends itself to local co-op, details on couch co-op support haven’t been confirmed yet.
The remaster will include online multiplayer, solving the biggest hurdle that kept many from experiencing this cult favorite the first time around.
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is releasing in 2019 in Japan. No date has been announced for other regions yet.
