Australia and New Zealand don’t currently have access to PlayStation Now. The cloud-based streaming service gives you access to PS2, PS3 and PS4 games on both console and PC for a monthly free. Although I’ve assumed the service would hit our shores at some point, it’s taking a long time to get there. However, new evidence points towards the launch sooner than later, and hopefully, PS Now will be flicked on in the near future.

Earlier this week, PSU reported that the New Zealand PlayStation website had a dedicated PS Now page. True Trophies corroborated this with an image of the advertisements spotted for PlayStation Now on the New Zealand store page. Although the page for PS Now was reportedly live for a moment, the link now takes you to a 404 page.

In 2019, I covered Sony building a cloud gaming engineering and infrastructure in Adelaide, Australia, on our PlayStation podcast, Platinum Explosion. Since then, I’ve tried to keep my eye out for signs of movement but had missed a couple of recent job postings and signs that point to things picking up in Adelaide.

PlayStation posted a job listing for a Business Operation Coordinator (Adelaide) a month ago. The listing stated the opportunity is for Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia Future Technology Group. The description for which sounds like PS Now material to me.

As a part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Future Technology Group is leading the cloud gaming revolution, putting console-quality video games on any device, from TVs to consoles to mobile devices and beyond.”

Another job listing was posted just a week ago for a Full-time Senior System Engineer at PlayStation Adelaide. The description for that job is similar to the one above.

“At PlayStation, we’re leading the revolution in cloud gaming as we push the boundaries of what’s possible! Would you like to use your skills, time, and passion on meaningful projects that are building the future? We’re looking for engineers who want to make a difference, love automating everything they can get their hands-on, and enjoy working with creative, intelligent, and collaborative teammates. If that sounds like something you would love to do, we want to hear from you! Come help us build a world-class cloud platform capable of delivering fun and unique gaming experiences to millions of players!”

There’s also a position for a Service Reliability Engineer posted three weeks ago, along with a Staff Software Engineer position posted one week ago.

According to those whose occupation lists themselves as having worked at the Adelaide PlayStation location, it’s been active for just over three years now.

I’m hopeful we’ll get some news about PlayStation Now in Australia and New Zealand next year, and hopefully, it’ll launch in 2022 as well. It’d also be great to see it turned on here as part of a rework of the subscription service combined into PlayStation Plus.

Let me know what you think and if you’d be excited to see PlayStation Now come to Australia and New Zealand in the comment section below.
