If you thought the PS4 library started to dwindle in indie love towards the end of its life, fear not for the PS5. Shuhei Yoshida has officially revealed his indie project today and it’s called the ‘PlayStation Indies Initiative.’

Back in November Shuhei was appointed the head of the initiative and since then has been meeting (probably Zooming) developers and talking about how to get their games in front of the PlayStation player base.

“With PlayStation Indies, we hope to spotlight and support the best of the best indie games being published on PlayStation and the entire indie community as a whole,” writes Shuhei in a PlayStation Blogpost. “The indie community is increasingly important for the future of the video game industry, as AAA game development has grown so financially demanding that big companies are finding it harder to take risks to invest in new concepts that may or may not work.”

He also points out the indie games we just saw in The Future of Gaming event, in particular Bugsnax, because who doesn’t love that game.

The announcement also came with news for PS Now. Although not relevant for AUS audiences just yet, it may be one day. PS Now will be getting a new indie game added every month with the first being Hello Neighbor in July.

This news all bodes well for the indie support in PS5, although I think that was already a big point of The Future of Gaming event.
