Steelrising was revealed during Nacon Direct from publisher Nacon and Greedfall developer Spiders.
It’s a unique concept for a game, so strap in for this one.
Steelrising takes place during an alternative version of the French Revolution. In this version of history, King Louis XVI’s robotic army is terrorizing France. You play as another robot, in a human form, called Aegis who teams up with Queen Marie-Antoinette to fight for the people and put an end to King Louis’s robotic terror of France.

In the Nacon Direct video following the announcement of the game in a teaser trailer, Jehanne Rousseau, CEO and Co-founder of Spiders discussed what makes the game special and different than their previous games.
“When we envisaged Steelrising, our basic premise was: what would have happened if Lous XVI had bee a tyrant and could indulge his passion for machines and automaton to crack down on the revolution in its early stages,” Rousseau explained before getting into combat shortly after. “The weapons range from ones on your arm for very light combat to alchemical rifles for long-range attacks and much heavier weapons you can use to flatten your enemies with maxim force”
The game’s combat is going to be a lot more action-focused than their previous title, Greedfall and feature a level of verticality as you’ll be able to make your way up and down buildings around Paris.
“I think many players will start off thinking, okay, I’ll fight, take on these monsters and find the best strategy, and what I hope, if I’ve done my job properly, is that they will end up getting impressed in this world. And they’ll want to explore more than just the strategic and tactical path to accomplish the main storyline.”
You can hear everything that Rousseau had to say by going to the 21:00 mark in the Nacon Connect video below.
