Lenovo Legion Gaming Epprenticeship winner Amy 'SassQueenAmy' Campbell

Lenovo Australia has today announced the winner of their Lenovo Legion Gaming Epprenticeship is Amy Campbell, a.k.a. SassQueenAmy.

Gamers who wanted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity were asked to submit a video showing their personality, passion for gaming, and creativity. Lenovo put the call out in June for gamers who wanted to make their mark in the growing industry and received hundreds of applications in just two weeks, but Amy came out on top.

Amy is a New Zealand–based fitness instructor by day, but has been trying to make her mark by freelancing at games publications and studying both Game Design and Digital Media at university.

“I’m delighted to be selected as the Lenovo Legion Epprentice,” said Amy. “I cannot wait to share my love for gaming with the broader community and I am excited to meet and learn from the mentors selected for this program. With COVID-19 massively disrupting my working life, I had the time to consider what I value and what I want to put out into the world. A timely reminder for me to continue to pursue my dream – which can be difficult without the right guidance.”

Amy will receive $5,000 and the latest Legion equipment, alongside training from industry veterans. These include Aussie legend and game critic/personality Stephanie “Hex” Bendixsen; Founder of Indie Developing at SMG Studios, Ashley Ringrose; and the Founder and Managing Director of Game On AUS, Pete Curulli.

Gaming Business Development Manager ANZ at Lenovo, Ben Williams, said the following about Amy winning the Epprenticeship:

“Amy has not only demonstrated an interest in a career in the industry by pursuing freelance writing gigs for gaming publications, but has continually sought to expand her knowledge of the industry through education. With a broad-ranging interest spanning a number of fields in gaming, we think Amy will thrive with the diverse lessons and mentorship offered through the Epprenticeship.”
