Crossfire Legion, a sci-fi RTS game that has been in Early Access since May 2022, has recently announced that it will leave EA on December 8th. To celebrate this, the game will also have a free weekend going from the 8th to the 11th, Thursday to Sunday.
Crossfire Legion exits Early Access this week

Along with the release into 1.0, Crossfire Legion will, of course, be getting some new content to go along with it. Chief among this is Act IV of the campaign trailer, with Developer Blackbird Interactive are excited for the players to see how the story finishes. They have shared the last three mission titles — Greater Good, Know thy Enemy and (the now classic) Endgame. Along with the campaign ending, Crossfire Legions is also getting a new Co-Op Mode, Operations Northside, a mode where you and your buddy will lay siege to an occupied city and extract some ambassadors. The final mode announced for release is Brawl. In this mode, units spawn and upgrade automatically as you try to destroy all the enemy headquarters to win.
Some of the existing modes include the classic 1v1, 2v2 & 3v3 PVP modes you would expect from an RTS game. There is also another PVP mode in Payload, where you work in a team to secure three payloads, and another coop vs AI Mode, Operation Thunderstrike, in which you fight off waves of AI enemies and escort a target. Crossfire Legion also received a Map Maker in its August update, another classic for the RTS Genre.
I have yet to dip into Crossfire Legion myself but have tentatively watched it from afar, but it does not seem to have had the smoothest of Early Access Periods. The game currently sits at 64% mixed on Steam (Total English reviews are at 73% – Mostly Positive). Notably, 94% of the 36 user reviews with over 10 hours of playtime (in English) were positive. A lot of early reviews were critical of the microtransactions in the game, which were believed to be able to lead to the dreaded pay-to-win mechanic, but this was removed in the first major patch, indicating that Blackbird Interactive is open to feedback.
What do you think? Are you an RTS fan keen to jump on something new? Will you check out the free weekend, or will you wait for one of the other games in the upcoming RTS resurgence? Let me know in the comments.
