Alien fans appear to be eating good with Alien: Romulus. If the first official trailer is anything to go by it’s going to be the scariest entry in the franchise in a long time.
Here’s the first official trailer for Alien: Romulus.
- Synopsis: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
- Director: Fede Alvarez
- Writers: Fede Alvarez & Rodo Sayagues
- Producers: Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, Walter Hill, Fede Alvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon, Brent O’Connor, Tom Moran
- Cast: Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, Aileen Wu
The most interesting thing is that this doesn’t look that unique. And I’m not even saying that in a negative way. But following Fede Álvarez’s addition to The Evil Dead by taking things to an apartment and playing with the lore, it appears the approach here is “let’s just go back to basics,” and I have no problem with that.
Alien: Romulus features a small cast, trapped in a ship, it’s dark, no one can hear you scream. Was the success of Prey an inspiration for just telling something simpler rather than continuing Ridley Scott’s past Alien films building on the lore? Or were audience reactions to those the reason we’re here? Either way, I can’t wait!
