Let’s look at the Australian Box Office results for the weekend.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has, rather unsurprisingly, gone straight to the top of the Australian box office with a record-breaking $13.4 million opening weekend, making it the biggest opening of 2026 and the highest-grossing debut ever for a non-franchise film in Australia. More than 587,000 Australians headed to cinemas over the opening weekend to see Nolan’s latest.

Behind The Odyssey, the live-action Moana continued its strong run with $2.92 million, taking its total to $12.5 million. In comparison, Toy Story 5 added another $2.83 million in its fifth weekend, pushing its impressive Australian total to $42.4 million. Minions & Monsters remained in fourth with $2.17 million, while The Invite rounded out the top five with $469,000.
